MORE INFORMATION

Apart from Anzac Day and Annual General Meeting/Luncheon in October, our Association continues to maintain a strong involvement in the following:

Kindred Organisation Unit Association Committee – RSL

This provides a network for Units and is also the forum for unit associations for input into the Anzac Day.

March and Dawn Service with our committee delegate attending.

Battle of Crete Commemorative Council

We continue to attend some of their events thereby maintaining a strong bond to Crete where some of our veterans courageously fought in 1941 and not forgetting those that went into hiding on the island. The Cretan people at great peril to themselves continued to help our veterans.

In recent years some of their members have marched with us on Anzac Day in their traditional dress.

Hellenic sub-branch RSL

Each year invitations are received to attend Greek Independence Day. The Greeks fought the Otterman Empire from 25th March 1821 with victory finally in 1832. The day is commemorated on the day the war began.

Also invitations to “OHI” (NO) Day on 28th October. Originates from 1940 with the defeat of the Italian Army.

Our attendance involves wreath laying at the Hellenic Memorial or the Shrine Forecourt and then we return to their clubrooms for the traditional lunch of fish and chips.

Kalamata 23 Society

Held in May each year and wreath laying at the Hellenic Memorial in the Shrine precinct.

Shrine of Remembrance

Events are conducted all the time and you can check on their website to see what is on.

Repatriation Hospital, Heidelberg

Anzac Day (prior to 25th) and Remembrance Day ceremonies are held each year and everyone is welcome to attend. Remember to visit the Chapel stained glass windows with our own Keith Rossi depicted. Everyone welcome to attend.

Special Commemorations

From time to time with some conducted by the Federal Department of Veterans Affairs.

RSL Venues

Many members attend for meals and a flutter on pokies and if you are on holidays etc please take the opportunity to support our RSL – you are always welcome.
